Kid-Friendly Roller Shades

November 25, 2020

As a mom of 3 under 4 and a foster mom, I am always looking for ways to improve the safety around the house. If you have had littles running around your house or have them now, you know that kids will always get into anything and everything they are not supposed to! From unlocking the front door, to trying to get out the back door, and even trying to figure out what’s behind the outlet covers.

When we moved into this house, the kids did everything to explore the house and were finding new “things” to play with every day. Like the blinds. Who knew some string would be so fun to play with?

I knew that I needed to do something to get these cords out of the way! If you have seen our living room, you have seen our Alexa and Google Voice controlled roller shades. Not only was this a huge help to get the hazardous cords out of reach for the littles, but it helped SO much to tame the sun at peak times. BUT this wasn’t the only place that needed the cordless, automated and stylish shades. In my efforts to put myself at ease while the kids are getting more independent and want to play in their rooms, we decided to partner with Somfy to outfit the kids rooms with the roller shades as well!

For the kids room I knew we needed blackout, simple color, and a fabric that was… poop resistant. I know it’s sad to say, but it is a necessity in our house for things to be easy to clean! The installers helped us pick the best fabric and color for what we needed, and once the shades came in it was a quick install and we were ready to have the convenience of the motorized shades in the kids rooms.

Grayson is already obsessed with them, but is still learning to say “Alexa, raise Grayson’s bedroom shade” instead of “Alexa! Raise MY bedroom shade!!” Haha! We have even programmed them to open and close, through Somfy’s myLink app, for their nap and bed times so they know when it is time to start winding down.

The things we love most about the Somfy motorized roller shades are the convenience and safety they bring to our whole family! You can connect with a dealer to order your Somfy roller shades here.

If you are local to Colorado, reach out to our amazing installers Lutek!
