Mini Casual Dining Makeover

February 18, 2017

Before…

The casual dining area in the kitchen had already been upgraded with a new chandelier a few weeks after I moved in, but after buying the new round table for the space I eventually found myself wondering if the chandelier was a bit large for the space.  I hope to reuse the old one in another room makeover soon!

The chair cushions had already been recovered as well when I bought them a few years back, but after a year of children they were looking a bit drab and stained, so I started hunting for new fabric to freshen the space up.

After…

I hunted all over multiple online stores looking for the fabric, but finally settled on Magnolia Home Fashions Java Ikat Pewter from Fabric.com.  It was reasonably priced at $8.98/yd, making the cost about $20 to upgrade the chairs.  I used the remaining fabric on my baby/pet gates to help keep my 3 lb dog from squeezing through the fence to pee on my brand new carpet 🙂  The fabric was great quality and matched well with the rest of my decor.

I recently joined the mailing list for a site called Decor Steals, which has daily deals on items you would otherwise find at antique stores.  I am always inspired by Joanna Gaines from Magnolia Market and Fixer Upper, so this site helps me find similar items for a steal.  One day this gorgeous pendant chandelier appeared in my inbox and it was perfect to replace the chandelier in my casual dining space.  It also had a similar style to my fabric selection, so it ended up being too good to not pass up.  The sales are rotating, but sign up if you are interested in my chandelier and I am sure it will likely come up again soon!  It is called the “Distressed White Wood Chandelier | Elegant French” and was priced at $134.99.

Note:  I am not an electrician, but I am able to install my own lighting.   This chandelier is definitely one of the more complicated I had ever installed and took some internet researching to figure out how to do it…. no instructions were included.  I definitely had to get out some of my specialty tools and cut wires to shorten the length so it wouldn’t sit on top of my table.  I was able to do it all by myself during one of Lil Baby G’s naps, but would have been easier with two people and you need to have some clue about electrical to do it yourself.  Be safe!
